Where does movement come from?
Actions, textures, images and states of matter are sources for our research. They trigger our perception and evoke movement. In this two-day Physical Theatre workshop, we will explore potentials of performative expression reaching depth, tonus and presence by using different qualities of movement.
During our research, we will develop skills such as concentration, sensitivity and permeability for emotions and impulses. We will search for flow and the readiness to reach high energetic bodily states, constantly engaging both body and mind.
Final creative sessions will allow us to experiment with compositional scores, using movement qualities and timing in order to establish aesthetic communication. Solo and group improvisations will transform into performative situations.
The workshop combines Physical Theatre methods with somatic approaches as well as contemporary dance and performance art strategies. The work is also inspired by thoughts and approaches by Jerzy Grotowski, Eugenio Barba, Antonin Artaud and Butoh dance.
The workshop is open to interested people with and without prior knowledge or experience in physical theatre. A rather poetic understanding of one’s own body is required.
